Koen was born with ear pits, one in each ear. See sample below.
In February this year, he had his 1st ear pit infection. We brought him to the ENT (my mil's most trusted doc) and after taking anti biotic and applying an ointment, the swelling subsided and he was well again.
6 months later, he had his 2nd infection. It started with his cough and running nose and on 31st Aug, the school called to say he was having a fever so we brought him home early. I saw he had a small swell in his left ear again. We brought him to the ENT again on Wed, 2nd Sep and he gave another round of anti biotic. His fever subsided and he managed to go to school for his birthday celebration on Thursday.
His swelling got bigger and bigger this time round.
8th Sep
10th Sep-we took him to another ENT at Mt E to get a 2nd opinion. The doctor said he can remove the abscess and close up the ear pit for him in one surgery but he will be out of town and only back 10 days later. If his swell does not worsen, we will get him to do the surgery for Koen. He prescribed anti biotic for him first. We were hoping he could wait as we did not want him to go through 2 ops.
The swelling got bigger and on Sunday evening, 13th Sep, the discharge came out and he said it was painful.
We contacted CJ to see if he had ENT doc to recommend. He got us an appointment with his friend the next morning at 9am. Koen was ok and we still went to the neighborhood mooncake celebration after dinner lol.
14th Sep-We brought him to Glen to see the doc at 9am and she arranged to operate him to remove the abycess. It's a day surgery but she wanted Koen to be admitted for 2 days as he needed to be put on intravenous anti biotic drip due to the oral one did not work on him. 2 months later he needed to come back for another surgery to fix the tract :-( This doctor preferred to do 2 separate ops instead of 1.
He knew he was going to the op-so sad
The hub went in with him when they gave him the GA.
It was a quick procedure and he came out feeling all drowsy from the GA.
He woke up around 2 and was famished as he had to fast for the op.
My poor baby.
As a lodger who was going to stay with him, I also got to choose my meal lol.
My mum came to see him in the afternoon and I went back to get some stuff from home. The in laws and Kain also came to see him in the evening and when our helper went back with them, he cried murder, great. Managed to pacify him with some videos.
I can't sleep at all for the 2 nights as the boy next door was kbkb-ing almost the whole night as he just done an intestine surgery plus all the nurses coming in and out to check on the patients=panda eyes.
15th Sep-Endured another day and was hoping the doctor can discharge him tomorrow.
My mum came to help see him with my helper while I went home with Mr K to catch some winks. The sil came to
visit in the evening and brought the helper home with her.
Luckily he did not cried murder but he keep nagging and asking for her even while he was zzzz.
16th Sep-The doc came in the morning to remove the dressing and clean up the wound. She removed the turban and I was scare he will feel pain from all these but he was perfectly fine, no tears at all.
The doctor needed him to come back on Sat to remove the tube and do some dressing. She wanted to do a sedation at first but considering his age and that sedation needed to prick him with the needle, she was afraid he would be tramatise as he still needed to come back 2 months later for the bigger op, she suggested putting him on GA again. The drip was done when he was concussed the first round so he felt no pain.
The nurse removed the drip before he left. After she removed it, he told her-Got blood. Lol.
We went home around noon and I got the hub to tp Kei Lei roast duck drumstick rice for me!
Couldn't eat and sleep properly for the past few days and was glad this first op went pretty smoothly.
Koen was such a brave and good boy and hopefully his op 2 months later will be smooth going too.
Thanks to everyone for their well wishes!
