Our flight was at 9am, so we had to get up early again to go to the airport.

Yes! I managed to finish posting all by today!!

4th Dec 09-北京

I shall be good and continue to finish up the trip posts by today (hopefully).

K’s free day in PEK so we went to visit the Bird Nest. I remembered it was freezing that day, when we met K’s relative later in the evening, they said that day was by far the windiest day in PEK for this winter. I can tahan the cold, it’s the wind I cannot stand,brrrrrr.

 

 

Our shots were taken by this guy, as usual, he asked : 新加坡人会讲华语啊. (Me did the super roll)

 

Their MRT is so cheap-everywhere you go is 2RMB.

Upon advice from our friends and yesterday’s guide, we went to 大董for烤鸭.

It was the best meal we had in PEK. So yums!!!

2nd last stop was to 王府井, supposed to be some shopping street but again, nothing catches our eye.

 

Went back to hotel and his relative came to pick us up for dinner-guess where we went for dinner-全聚德. Another famous place for 烤鸭. After tasting 2 different 烤鸭 in the same day,we concluded that the one at 大董 wins hands down. No fight.

PS: PEK traffic jam is a killer.

3rd Dec 09-北京 (Part 2)

走完故宫后,因为不饿,所以导游建议到胡同去.

胡同 are a type of narrow streets or alleys, most commonly associated with Beijing, China. In Beijing, hutongs are alleys formed by lines of siheyuan, traditional courtyard residences. Many neighbourhoods were formed by joining one siheyuan to another to form a hutong, and then joining one hutong to another. The word hutong is also used to refer to such neighbourhoods.

Family status are indicated by the number of ‘knobs’ and shape of the ‘stones’ in front of their house. This is how the term 门当户对 came about。

 

This family obviously has pretty high status.

最后一个观光点是天坛。

The Temple of Heaven, literally the Altar of Heaven is a complex of Taoist buildings situated in the southeastern part of central Beijing, in Xuanwu District. The complex was visited by the Emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties for annual ceremonies of prayer to Heaven for good harvest. It is regarded as a Taoist temple, although Chinese Heaven worship, especially by the reigning monarch of the day, pre-dates Taoism.
